The electric grid is going through a fundamental transformation – on par with that of the Internet - with
the inclusion of ever more distributed renewables, energy islands, PtX, the electrification of everything and smart grid technology.
Millions of electric vehicles (EV) will further accelerate this transformation adding huge amount of storage. However, only if the EV’s batteries can be used to support the grid.
V2X technology allows the EVs to export energy to the grid and provide a large amount of storage at low marginal cost. In the future distributed, smart, bidirectional grid V2G/V2X EVs can play a major positive role enabling more renewables and providing flexibility services to the grid.
In short EVs will become “Good Citizens of the grid”. However, regulations and tariff regimes must do their parts to create a regulatory and business framework, where private business can be incentivized to provide grid services.
Career history
Bjørn is the Managing Director of nextdimension, focusing on E-Mobility, Vehicle-GridIntegration (VGI) and CO2 reduction.
He has been a pioneer in moving VGI and Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) solutions forward over the last 12 years.
Bjørn has been a key driver in 13 industry leading VGI/V2G projects, where he has gained unique insight, experience, and knowledge of VGI/V2G and where the transformation is heading.
Located in the heart of Silicon Valley Bjørn has actively worked with California Energy Commission to help California become a world leader in VGI/V2G.
Before nextdimension Bjørn had a long carrier with Siemens AG. He was the co-founder of Siemens Venture Capital (SVC) where he served as President and CEO with worldwide responsibility for corporate investments in innovative startups. Subsequently he served as the Chief Strategy Officer of Nuvve, a California based startup leading the V2G deployment of school buses in the US.
