Internet service providers have for decades been advertising ever increasing bandwidth numbers, and wrongly equated "bandwidth" with "speed". But in reality, for most applications latency is a better predictor of user-perceived "speed" than bandwidth. In this talk I intend to dive into this question in more detail, in the hope of convincing you that you should care more about latency and less about throughout - whether you're an application developer or an end user. You might have heard about latency before, but what is latency? And what is latency in internet?
Listen to this talk, where you will hear Toke Høiland-Jørgensen from RedHat present the topic ‘Latency’. Toke is presenting at Driving IT 2022 and Driving IT is IDA IT's big annual 4-track conference with 40 different speakers, where all the important and future things about IT are addressed in one day.
