Quantum computing: why, how, and when

Even the most powerful supercomputers face ultimate challenges for important problems in science and engineering, such as simulations of chemical processes and superconductors. By harnessing the laws of quantum mechanics, quantum computers offer exponential computational power increases for these problems. In this brief presentation, I will give an overview of what we know and don’t know about quantum computers:  known use cases, main challenges and approaches, and the outlook for realizations and applications.
