From Resource to Reality - Drilling Europe’s Geothermal Growth
Relateret medie
Europe has the geothermal resources and growing demand for low-carbon heat. But what will it take to scale? Explore the economics, policies, drilling capacity, costs and technologies that will determine the pace of geothermal growth.
Europe has significant geothermal resources and growing demand for reliable, low-carbon heat, but translating this potential into large-scale deployment requires more than identifying suitable resources.
This webinar will examine the factors determining the pace of geothermal development across Europe, including market demand, regulation and policy, drilling and supply-chain capacity, project costs and subsurface risk.
Alexandra Gerken will provide an overview of geothermal market developments across key European countries, including the policies supporting growth and the barriers that continue to constrain deployment.
The presentation will also examine the competitiveness of geothermal heating compared with alternative district-heating technologies and explore emerging technologies, drilling practices and innovations that could influence the economics and scalability of future geothermal development.
The webinar will provide a broader European perspective on where geothermal is growing, what is driving that growth and what needs to change for geothermal to move from individual projects towards deployment at scale.
This Webinar is For- Geothermal developers
- Local utilities and district-heating companies
- Drilling contractors
- Geothermal service and supply-chain companies
- Energy companies
- Investors and project developers
- Policymakers and energy-sector professionals
Alexandra Gerken – Vice President, Renewables & Power, Rystad Energy
Alexandra Gerken is Vice President in Rystad Energy's Renewables & Power team, where she leads the company's geothermal research.
Her work focuses on geothermal economics, market development and the wider energy transition, combining asset-level modelling with analysis of policy, power markets and competing technologies to identify where geothermal can deliver attractive economics, resilient low-carbon heat and strategic value for investors, developers and policymakers.
Links About the Webinar SeriesThis webinar is part of a series of geothermal webinars initiated by Søren Weiss Hartmann, Drillconsult, in collaboration with IDA Energy, SPE Copenhagen Section and IADC.
The series focuses on geothermal drilling, technology, lessons learned and opportunities to develop a more scalable geothermal industry in Denmark.
The webinars are being held in the lead-up to the IADC Geothermal Drilling Conference & Exhibition in Copenhagen in November 2026.
