The presentation by Nikolaos Emmanouil will focus on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and its increasing integration into regulatory frameworks related to sustainable construction. Nikolaos will present the hierarchy of relevant standards, including the development of c-PCR, their relation to the Product Environmental Footprint (PEF), and the role of Product Category Rules (PCR) and Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), including worst-case LCA declarations, that underpin these developments

He will also highlight the work of the European Commission’s Environmental Sustainability CPR Acquis subgroup and explain the methodological basis supporting this evolving structure. Furthermore, the presentation will address expected future developments in the Construction Products Regulation regarding LCA, including the anticipated transition from EPDs to integrating environmental data directly into CE marking, the potential loss of EPD content, and the resulting question of whether EPDs will remain necessary in the future
