This conference presentation explores the intersection of artificial intelligence and project management, delivered by Kenneth Kleiser, Group Technology Director at Cowi, and Niels, Senior Director of Digital Transformation.
The speakers examine how generative AI represents a fundamental shift in human-machine interaction and the most significant technological revolution of our working careers. Rather than viewing AI as just another wave of change, they argue that organizations must prepare for disruptive applications that will emerge within the next two to three years.
The presentation outlines Cowis strategic approach to AI adoption, emphasizing decentralized exploration, employee empowerment, and practical implementation across project management functions.
Key strategies include establishing clear ethical guidelines, creating tiered technology platforms (Level 1, 2, and 3) to guide employee behavior, and building a safe, secure internal AI platform accessible to all staff. The speakers highlight how project managers can leverage AI for monitoring progress, assessing risks, delegating tasks, onboarding new team members, and identifying project issues.
They share concrete metrics showing 70% adoption of their internal chatbot among 8,000 employees with 5,000 daily requests. The presentation emphasizes that while AI cannot yet replace experienced project managers, it significantly enhances productivity and helps medium-performing managers improve quality and efficiency.
Critical success factors include maintaining rigorous quality assurance processes, ensuring data security across projects, and training employees to think critically about AI-generated outputs.
The speakers stress the importance of continuous learning, building organizational resilience, and preparing for unknown future applications rather than focusing solely on current use cases.
